ABOUT OUR PROJECT

For the past nine weeks, we have been doing anthropological research in Auburn, New York as part of our class, the Cultural Politics of Prison Towns.

Our research focuses on understanding the ways in which Auburn and its people are impacted by the presence of the Auburn Correctional Facility that rests in the heart of the city.

Our research has taken the form of participant observation, interviews, and photo as well as photo-voice ethnography. The data we have gathered has allowed us to examine the complex yet rich relationship that the town has with the prison.
